J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: Primestock - Thursday 27th December

Prime Lambs

The Christmas sale of Prime Lambs held on Thursday 27th December saw the trade average 185p/kg with an SQQ 189p/kg with an entry of 1185 forward. Topping the trade at £97 was Texel lambs from RS & IM Kellet, Cockerham. Beltex lambs topped at £96 from JG Harryman, Hawkshead and Suffolks sold to the same price from J Twigge, Lindale. Plenty of good conformation lambs sold around between the 215-220p/kg mark, topping at 225p/kg and 224p/kg for Beltex lambs from JG Harryman. Plenty of pens of handy weight Continental lambs sold towards to 200p/kg mark. There was plenty of hill lambs on the market today that saw Cheviots sell to a top of £89 from J Allonby & Son, Grayrigg with others selling to £86 from WL & F Richards, Beckside. Mule lambs sold to a top of £84 from JS & S Atkinson, Scorton with Rough Fell lambs topping at £79 from I & J Mallinson, Selside, with Swaledales to £77 from N & ME Harrison, Shap.

Cast Sheep

There was an entry of over 300 sheep forward which sold to a very similar trade as seen over previous weeks. The trade topped at £99 for Texel ewes from PK & R Woof, Stainton with others to £96 from JC Dunning, Orton. Plenty of Continental ewes sold into the eighties. Cheviot Mule ewes topped £73 from J Allonby & Son, Grayrigg with Mule ewes topping at £71 from WT & EM Townley & Son, Carnforth. Plenty of strong Mule ewes selling in the mid to late sixties. Horned ewes sold in the mid-forties topping at £45 from Messrs Lawrence & Sons, Grange-over-Sands for Scottish Blackfaced and Swaledales to £45 from DC Miller, Claughton-on-Brock. Plenty of well-fleshed horned ewes sold around the forty-pound mark with horned ewes not full of meat still selling in the twenties.
