Calves

The final calf sale of 2018 saw a top price of £220 for a 3 week old British Blue x Bull calf from JM Barton & Son who sold British Blue x Heifers at £200. A young Hereford x bull achieved £150. Dairy bulls topped at £160 for Friesian types from AE&M Hayhurst, youngest sorts £15-£40.

Store Lambs

The last sale of store for the year at J36 Rural Auction saw an entry of 1,500 forward. The quality of lambs forward was mixed but buyers forward for all types of lambs. The trade saw best conformation lambs sell in excess of the £80 mark. The trade topped at £84 for Texel lambs from RA & C Harper of Grayrigg. Beltex lambs sold to £83 from BJ Bowness of Kendal with others to £82 from MW & MR Black of Staveley and the same price from M & M Carr of Burton. The Leicester trade topped at £79 from JA & CA Gibson of Selside. Suffolk lambs sold to the late seventies topping at £78.50 from PG Thornton of Scorton. There was plenty of short keep lambs easily selling in excess of the £70 mark. Mule lambs sold to a top of £69.50 from D Woof of Sedbergh. Best horned lambs sold into the forties topping at £50 for Swaledale lambs from Clegg and Bennett of Broughton in Furness.
