Prime Hoggs

The weekly sale at Lancaster saw a few more hoggs forward in the market today, selling to a stronger trade with a SQQ average of 169p/kg achieved. Continental bred hoggs, weighing between 39kg and 44kg, were in the strongest demand and certainly easiest to sell. Heavy weight hoggs were slightly cheaper due to the fact a large numbers of heavy weight hoggs now available on the market.

The trade topped at £84 for Texel Hoggs from H Chapman & Son of Millbeck and it was nice to have a number of pens selling either side of the eighty pound mark. Horned hoggs, twice, sold to £70.50 from GR Bargh & Co and from E & N Wright with 40kg horned hoggs from H Chapman & Son selling to £68.

Cast Sheep

The strong trade for ewes continued at Lancaster with a very mixed entry of ewes in the market. The trade topped at £87 for Dutch Texel ewes from GR & A Foy of Parkside with Texel ewes selling to £77 from JM & MH France of Newhouse Farm.

Smaller Mule ewes forward today sold to £60 from G Riley with Horned ewes topping at £46 from T Longton.
