J36 Thursday 23rd February 2017

Posted Thursday, 23 February 2017, 1.43pm

The weekly sale of Calves had a smaller entry forward today but sold to a strong trade. All calves forward were eagerly bid for and more could easily have been sold to the advantage of the vendor.

A young entry of black and whites at J36 as normal saw better types of rearing calves selling in the region of £70. Young beef calves saw Angus bulls selling easily over the £200 mark.

Please be aware that there will be no sale of Calves and Stirks on Thursday 2nd March 2017. The next sale will be 9th March 2017.

Store Hoggs

An entry of 400 Store Hoggs were forward for the sale where the trade was very dependent upon the quality of the hoggs, with buyers slightly cautious of the current prime hogg trade with some rumouring not much improvement on the horizon.

Continental short keep hoggs were easiest to sell, topping at £66.50 from B & D Willison of Cinderbarrow. There was plenty of strong fleshed Continental and Suffolk hoggs selling to either side of £60 with Mules selling to a top of £58. The longer term small Continental hogg trade was very dependent on the quality and condition of the hoggs.

The next sale of store hoggs will take place on the 9th March 2017.
