North West Auctions Lancaster had a cracking entry of 54 Pedigree and Commercial Dairy Cattle for their January Show and Sale on Monday 16th January.

The show and sale was kindly sponsored by Wynnstay and Northern Nutrition, whom we would like to thank for their continued support, which makes this event so successful. The judging this morning was in the capable hands of Mr Austin Knowles, Malvern, we greatly appreciate him giving us his time and expertise. He gave the Championship Rosette to lot 22, she was the halter led in-milk Heifer, Ingleview Jareb Anna, she was consigned by R & E Butterfield, Linghaw Farm, Bentham, she calved on the 1st January, and giving 32kg daily. Ingleview Jareb Anna has 9 generations of VG/EX behind her, with the nearest 5 dams all EX. She realised £2020 through the sale. The Reserve Champion in-calf Heifer went to lot 43, Sandcrest Queen, consigned by J & M Sanderson, Pasture Barn Farm, Wesham. She calved on the 18th December, and is currently producing 30L daily, she then went on to realise £1900.

The top price of the sale went to Stirckland Hill Farming, Strickland Hill, Witherslack, for their In-Milk Heifer, Witherslack Moviestar Barbara. She calved 21 days ago and is giving 33L, and then realised £2150. J T & B Fox, Blackwood End, Quernmore, had the 1st prize Cow in Milk, with Blackwood Clinker, She calved on the 4th January, and is currently giving 32lt daily, then sold away to £1480.

Best pair of heifers went lots 10 and 11, which were consigned by J Burrow & son, Tunsteads Farm, Barton. Lot 10, Stardale Goodwhone Vaakje, calved on the 27th December, and is giving 30L daily, she has 6 generations of VG/EX behind her, went on to sell for £2150. Lot 11, Stardale Varney Meg, who calved on the 17th December, and is also giving 30L daily. The next 4 generation dams all EX, Meg sold for £1820.

There was a very useful selection of bulls on offer today. Mr Knowles placed as his Champion Male to lot 63, Kirkwood Ronnie, consigned by H & SD Cornthwaite, Kirkwood Lodge Farm, Kirkland. He has 8 generations of VG/EX of pedigree behind him. He went on to sell for £1700.
