The Good Cattle Trade Continues at Lancaster

Store Cattle
The weekly sale of store cattle at Lancaster, plenty of fleshed cattle in the market today but not quite the quality as seen over previous weeks at Lancaster. The trade was topped by Robin and Margaret Dodgson of Kilburn House selling to £1390 for a pair of Charolais steers and £1,300 for a Charolais steer. Plenty of steers selling in the late twelve hundreds with native cattle topping at £1,270 for a pair of Angus steers from JH Woof & Son of Underhelm with Angus heifers selling to £1,170 from SJ Brass of Ingleton. A few consignments of yearling cattle today at Lancaster was good to see and they sold very well with vendors leaving well pleased with their trade with vendors of all types of cattle strongly advised to take advantage of this strong cattle trade.

OTM Cattle
A disappointing number of cast cows and OTM cattle forward with just 65 forward, especially with the weather breaking more where expected forward for the sale. Beef cows sold to a top of 167.5ppk for a British blue from R & B Parker of Killington and top price of £1,153 for a Limousin cow from AR Edmondson of Hawkswell. Plenty of well fleshed beef cows sold around the 140ppk mark. Cast Angus bulls from WG & E Sutcliffe of Lathwaite Farm sold to £1,194. Friesian cows sold to a top of £1015 from DH & M Kellet & Sons of Boundary House and topped at 124.5ppk for well fleshed dairy cows. An overall market average of 114ppk with dairy cows selling to an average of 102ppk.

Calves and Stirks
A quieter entry of calves and stirks forward this week with many vendors waiting the renowned monthly sale of stirks next week. A fantastic consignment of calves from David and Eileen Wallbank of Abbeystead sold British Blue bulls to £495 and £455 at six weeks old. British blue heifers sold to £380 from J Hitchen of Catteral. Black and white calves eagerly bid for topping at £115 from David and Eileen Wallbank of Abbeystead.
