Bank Holiday Prime Stock & Breeding Sheep at Lancaster

Spring Lambs

The largest entry of spring lambs to date this year at Lancaster we all vendors leaving well satisfied with their trade. An entry of 500 lambs forward sold to a market average of 198ppk. Continental lambs easily selling in excess of 200ppk with Suffolk mules selling in the mid 190ppk. Trade topped at £94 for a couple of smart Charolais lambs from K Whitaker and Son of Stirzakers Farm. Chris Alty of Moss House Farm sold lambs to 214ppk with plenty of vendors in excess of 210ppk for better types.

Prime Hoggs

A smaller entry of 128 prime hoggs today saw well fleshed types sell in excess of 150ppk. Continental hoggs sold to £82 from RG & H Preece of Thornbush.

Cast Sheep

A good show of sheep this week were met by the continuing strong trade at Lancaster. The first sheep in the ring topped the sale at £115 for a Texel from JM Sanderson, Halton. Best sheep up and over £90. Mules to £74 from GM & R Whitaker, Goose Green.

Breeding Sheep

There was just a small entry of sheep with lambs at foot today but a strong trade for Mule Hoggs with lambs at foot. Trade topped at £155 from Mark Wilson of Gill Garth with mule hoggs and single Suffolk lambs. A few older families forward today sold in the late forties per life.

Prime Cattle

No prime cattle forward today but cattle required to fulfil buyer’s requirements.
