A smaller entry of sheep and lambs than the bumper entry the previous week. A strong trade throughout, aged Charollais ewes with twin lambs sold to £178 from G & LJ Caine of Stank. A selection of ¾ Texel hoggs from JA Chapman of North Lodge sold to £170. Buyers still looking to purchase Sheep and Hoggs with lambs at foot and vendors kindly asked to enter for advertising.


The largest entry to date yet this season at J36 Rural Auction Centre, with 785 being sold. An overall market average of 195ppk with lambs between 33kg and 39kg averaging 198ppk. Continental lambs regularly selling in excess of 200ppk, with Beltex types lambs selling easily in excess 220ppk topping at 230ppk from E Lund & Son of Lundholme for lightweight lambs. Light weight lambs very good to sell around 32-36kg making in the region of 200ppk, with better types easily selling in excess of 200ppk. The top price of the day was £108 from RJ Stott of Crosscrake with a pair of smart lambs. Suffolks averaged 193ppk.


A strong entry of prime hoggs for the time of year with 266 forward. Well fleshed heavy hoggs sold into the eighties and nineties. Standard weight hoggs, well fleshed sold between 165 and 180ppk. The top price was £94 from M and M Carr of Clawthorpe Lodge, with Continental hoggs from SH & PI Bowes of Barrow in Furness selling to 182ppk.


A small entry of cast sheep sold to a dearer trade than seen last week. Well fleshed big framed sheep once again over the £100 mark, topping at £122 for a Texel Ewe from TL & S Cross, Westhouse. Mules sold to a top of £85 from John Bell, Wennington, with the best £77-£82 and an average of £70 right through. Hill sheep to £87 from D & D Huddleston, Wray. Swales to £71 from FI & ME Little, Kendal. Overall average of £69 for all forward.
