The weekly sale of calves and stirks had an entry of 62 forward. Certainly more interest around the ring today with fresh and returning buyers looking for all types of calves. Well-grown beef calves at just shy of two months old, sold to £370 twice from RW Nicholson of Lupton, with British Blue and Limousin bull calves. A lot of young beef calves saw nice types selling between £220 and £260. Black and Whites a sharper trade with a lot of young calves forward, with fleshed calves definitely selling to a premium today and vendors were very pleased with their black and white trade. Black and whites topped at £125 from Messrs Sowerby of Appleby.

A small selection of stirks forward today saw 8 month old Black and whites sell to £455 from RH & RA Fawcett of Burton.

There was a show of 27 Cast Cows & Bulls forward for todays sale, with an increased ringside of buyers insuring a satifactory overall average of 103.5p/kg. A reduced entry of cattle forward due to major accident on the A590 and with some farmers facing movement restrictions because of on going TB issues, any customers now facing pre-movement testing please do not hesitate to get in touch with ourselves if you have any queries for options of marketing your cattle. 

The top price was 183.5p for a Limousin heifer from A Dixon & Son, Kit Crag which was sold to Plumgarths Farm Shop.

There was 52 Store Cattle at the fortnightly sale.

Store Cattle easily sold, and more could have been sold, to a good ringside of buyers.

The top price was £900 for a 10 month old Charolais bullock from A W Irvine, High Wray Farm.
