Spring Lambs

A stronger trade than anticipated at NWA Lancaster, with well fleshed lambs very good to sell and vendors leaving well satisfied with their trade. A busy ring of buyers all keen to purchase lambs made the job of selling the easiest it had been for a few weeks. Heavy weight, well finished lambs continue to be in strong demand and very good to sell, selling to a top of £88 for Texel lambs from G & MR Whitaker of Goose Green Farm. Nicer types of lambs were in the 180 pence per kilogram bracket regularly. Mule wether lambs sold to a top of £70 from WT & EM Townley & Son of Burnt House with mule Wether lambs eagerly bid for and those who sold last week a couple of pound dearer with Dalesbred lambs from BD Gill of Yarlsber selling to £67.

Cast Sheep

There was, once again, a strong cast ewe trade at Lancaster. Texel ewes into the nineties topping at £96 from E Hartley of Hazel Brae. Mule ewes to £69 with plenty of pens of strong mule ewes into the mid sixties. Herdwicks sold to £48 from T & ME Longton of Lee End Farm.
