Lancaster Primestock

Spring Lambs

The weekly sale of prime lambs at Lancaster had a reduced entry of just over one thousand today as many vendors buys with sheep sales. The trade was similar to markets at the end of the previous week as the market average finished at 147ppk. Texel and continental types of lambs sold to 172ppk from Richard Prickett of Hutton Roof Hall with heavy weight Texel’s selling to £77 from SA Hill of Beaumont Grange Farm. Mule lambs weighing between 44 – 47kilograms generally selling between £64 and £65.

Cast Sheep

Another good show of 223 cast ewes this morning. A stronger trade than last week, reaching a top of £95, from SA Hill, Beaumont Grange Farm, with a fit Texel ewe. Mules sold to a top of £70, with all forward averaging £64.95. Hill going sheep sold to £54 for Dalesbreds. Goats sold to £64 from SE Peacock, Cockerham Boers. Overall sale average of £64.24.

Prime Beef

A couple of suckler bred Limousin bulls from JA Airey of Old Croft sold to 191.5ppk twice. Prime bulls and clean beef cattle required for Lancaster prime cattle sale on a Monday.
