‘Multi-Breed Sale sell to £1900 at North West Auctions J36’

The inaugural sale of pedigree Beef Breeding Cattle saw a top price of £1900 achieved for a Limousin Cow ‘Greenways Fancygirl’ with a bull calf at foot from R & S Mitchell, Lancaster, who also sold an in-calf Heifer ‘Greenways Izzy’, due in November to ‘Galileo’ at £1600.

Native breeds saw a 10 year old Beef Shorthorn Cow with Calf sell to £1020 from MJ & JA Dodson, Howgill.

Bulls sold to £1320 for a 3 year old Limousin from M Gibson, Greendale.

The next multi-breed sale of pedigree cattle will be held in spring 2016.


The weekly sale of calves had another strong entry of calves following the previous week with a record entry of 141 forward it was nice to have another strong entry of 69 forward. A busy ring of buyers meant that all calves where easily bid for although trade for beef calves not as seen two months since but still easily selling as well as other centres with not many other centres able to boast the amount of active buyers around the ring. Limousin bull calves sold to £375 from Pritt Bros of Middle bank Farm with British Blue bulls selling to £360 from JW & D Robinson of Hollins Farm with all Blue bull calves averaging £345. Heifer calves continued to be wanted at J36 selling to £330 from B Mallinson of Raven Lodge for a British Blue. An entry of young Montbeliarde calves created plenty of interest selling to £180 from JJ & MA Park & Son of Low Sizergh and averaged £160. Black and white calves sold to a top of £160 and other best rearers easily selling in excess of £140. Young good rearing types selling between £80 and £110.

Store Lambs

The weekly sale of Store Lambs saw an increased ringside of buyers competing for all types of Lambs with a market average of £52.22 achieved.

A top price of £68 was achieved for Suffolk x Lambs with batches of shorter keep lambs £55-£62, medium keep £52-£54 with only smallest sorts under £49.

Hill Lambs sold to £59.50 for Mules (av. £49), Cheviot £55 and horned lambs £54.

Store Lambs sold every week at J36.
