Lancaster Monday Primestock

Spring Lambs

A larger show of lambs this morning with just short of 1500 forward. Trade remained similar to Lancaster last week, averaging 192ppk. Top price of the day was 214ppk for a pen of 40kg Texels from J Lamb, Old Glasson. Quality lambs were best to sell, with plainer sorts harder to place, pulling the average back slightly. A shortage of heavy weight lambs led to a better trade for these, with 50kg lamb from GR & RA Surtees realising £103. Light weight lambs 32-34kg easily in excess of £2/kg. Six 32kg Texels from W Pinder Jnr, realised 213ppk or £68/head.

Hoggs

Hoggs all but finished, swales to £66 and Texels to £96 from B & J Preston, Caton.

Cast Sheep

Just shy of 100 ewes forward this morning with trade similar week on week, topping at £104 for a Texel ewe from AG Butler, Hambleton. Mules a fraction easier, topping at £83/head from J & R Waller, Hallbeck. Buyers still cautious of over fat ewes. Overall average of £76/head for all forward.
