Cast/OTM Cattle

A bumper entry of 108 cast cows and OTM cattle forward at Lancaster sold to a continued strong trade throughout with buyers keen to purchase all types of cows. A larger proportion of beef cows forward this week saw pure Limousin cows from Nether Hall Farms sell to 177.5ppk and others to 171.5ppk and 169.5ppk with all Limousin cows forward this week averaging just short of 150ppk. Black and whites sold to a top of 144.5ppk from W & S Airey of West Hall with other fit Black and White cows selling into the late 130ppk with all black and whites averaging 117ppk with only plain types of cows selling under 100ppk.

Store Cattle

A larger show of store cattle forward today followed a similar trend in trade with younger grazing cattle eagerly sort after with smaller black and white steers a noticeable better trade, not as many good quality big steers in the market as the previous week, with native cattle once again in strong demand and well sold at Lancaster. Strong steers sold over £1200 topping at £1290 from Cowell & Moore of Woodplumpton for a Charolais. Heifers sold to a top of £1160 from M Shepherd & Sons of Pilling with a pair of British Blues.

Rearing Calves & Stirks

A smaller show of calves this morning, however a ringside of buyers made for a fast trade through out. Young Blues from Richard & Johnny Hoggarth sold to a top of £298 for Bulls and £295 for heifers. A nice Montbelliarde bull from JR Pye, Stalmine, sold to £260 at only a month old. Black and whites a sharp trade, selling to £110 from Alan & Sam Bargh, Morecambe, to average £78. A good number of stirks finished the sale, topping at £595 for a Simmental heifer at 8months from John Gorst and Limousin heifers to £505 from Andrew Sheerin, Quernmore.
