Store Cattle

The Lancaster Annual Grass Day sale saw a nice show of cattle forward, with plenty of meaty cattle and grazing cattle forward. Grazing cattle were a good trade with RH & C Ayrton selling their first prize Bullock to realise £1080, with heifers from the same home selling to £1000 both at 12months. Young B&W were dearer on the week, with older sorts talk a hit. With another forecasted drop in dead weight prices next week, trade for short keep cattle was slightly easier, topping at £1300 for a pen of Lim bullocks from GR Bargh & Co. Heifers sold to £1200 for a single Lim from JS & KM Wilson & Son.

Cast Cows

A strong entry of 70 cast cows forward, defying the drop in beef price, with a flying trade throughout, selling to a top of 164.5ppk for a Lim cow, again from RH & C Ayrton & Son. Top gross was achieved by a Lim cow again selling to a total of £1170 from F & M L Lee & Son. OTM dairy cows sold to a top of 144.5ppk, twice, both from D & E Monk & Son. Dairy cows sold to average 120ppk, with an overall average of 122ppk.

A strong trade for all calves forward this morning, B&W’s to £190 from Wallbank Farms, best black and whites in excess of £150 with nice rearing sorts £80-£120, to average £79/head. A shortage of heifer calves this morning, with Angus’ selling to £238 from Ken & Sheila Kelsall, Chipping. Topping the morning was a cracking Blue Bull at 1m26day from David & Eileen Wallbank selling to £530. Strong Hereford Bull calves from John Drinkall sold to £400 at 8weeks. Stirks from John Gorst at 8month sold to £600 for a BrB Heifer and £515 for a nice pair of Angus Heifers.
