Calves
The weekly sale had an entry of 40 calves and stirks. Calves continue to sell to a strong trade, a trio of Hereford Bull calves from R & EA Gardner of Barrowfield selling to £350 with others achieving £330 and £320. British blue heifers sold to a top of £260 from Barker farms with others selling to £240.
Young beef calves met strong demand with two week beef bull calves selling to £235 from
MH & SJ Morris of Wraysholme Tower. A young show of Black and White bull calves in the market topped at £82 for 2½ week olds from HJ Robinson of Elm Tree, with other young rearing types selling to £45. Small plainer types of Holstein bull calves sold between £15 and £30.
A mixed bag of stirks forward, selling to £490 for British Blue steers, with suckler bred Angus bulls achieving £480. Black and White bull stirks sold to £250.
Dairy
With the onset of lambing a reduced entry of dairy cattle forward this week selling to £1450 for a Friesian type from GM Sedgwick & Son with others at £1350.
Next sale is Thursday 26th March to include special sale of dairy youngstock.
