Lancaster Annual Show & Sale of Mule & Continental Gimmer Lambs

NWA Lancaster held its annual show and sale of Mule and Continental gimmer lambs attracting many southern buyers as well as a good following of loyal local farmer buyers.

The judging was carried out by Mr Raymond Johnson, Harrogate and Mr Ashley Wilson, Kendal who had an impressive show of 14 pens to judge. The champion pen of 10 was awarded to Bryan and Shirley Carter of Cragg End who later went on to sell for £170 to Chris Batty of Friars Moss. This was closely followed in second place by William, Alice & John Atkinson of Holme House selling for the days top price of £178 to Chris Hewitt of Eskewbeck.

The champion pen of twenty mule gimmer lambs was awarded to a very bonny pen from William, Alice & John Atkinson of Holme House selling for £118. In the any other breed class judged by Tony Chapman of Kendal the Champion pen was awarded to K Thomas, Hill Top selling to E Lund & Son of Ingleton.

There was plenty of top pens regularly selling away between £135 and £150. With younger running lambs being in strong demand and good to sell. This lead to an overall sale average of £93 in line with other markets.
