The Annual Autumn Prize Show & Sale of Store Cattle was held at J36 Rural Auction Centre on Thursday. The pre-sale judging was carried out by Frank Pooley of Chorley who had some outstanding show cattle put before him and after judging some big classes of cattle he awarded the Championship Rosette to a cracking 12 month old Limousin x bullock from JG & PH Thompson of Selside. The Reserve Rosette went to PJ & B Airey of Sedgwick for a 15 month old British Blue Bullock which sold for the day’s top price of £1510.

The Limousin Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the Best Pair of Bullocks or Heifers sired by a Limousin Bull was won by JG & PH Thompson of Poppy Farm.

The Crown Chemical Challenge Cup for the Best Pair of Bullocks or Heifers sired by a Continental Bull was won by MJ Shepherd of Gaskell House.

The sale ring was full of buyers with several new purchasers buying for the first time at Junction 36 and we're sure they would not be disappointed with the quality of cattle on show.

Cast Cow Sale
A cracking show of well fleshed cows were put before a ringside of 12 active buyers with Continental cows topping at 191.5p/kg for a Limousin from Station Farm with plenty more cows at 140-160p/kg. Black & White cows topped at 159.5p/kg for a well fed cow from JW & HM Metcalf & Son of Gatebeck leaving an overall market average of 138.4p/kg.
