NWA J36 had an entry of over 3,000 sheep forward at it’s weekly sale.

Prime Lambs

A fantastic show of some 2,200 prime lambs were put before an increased ringside of buyers, which included the annual Christmas Sow of Prime Lambs. Some 58 pens of lambs were presented to the judge, Mr Michael Lomax and after judging seven very strong classes of lambs, he awarded the championship rosette and the Jack Ireton Memorial Trophy to a tremendous pen of 5 Beltex lambs from M E Wannop & Sons, Heaton Hall Farm.

Monthly Sale of Pigs

The monthly sale of pigs saw the largest entry to date with 252 forward at the sale.

A feature of the sale was the Prize Show, which saw Mr Dave Morland, Butchery Manager for Westmorland Services (Tebay) judge.

He awarded the first prize rosette in the prime pig class to a superb pen of 4 gilts, purchased by the judge for his butcher’s counter.

First prize store pigs from E Lawson sold for £70 to G Taylor, Crook with the prize winning Pietrain weaners from A J & E J Platt selling at a final bid of £50.
