A Large show of Prime Lambs sell to a Strong Trade at NWA Lancaster

Prime Lambs
A larger show of over 1800 prime lambs forward at Lancaster sold to a strong trade with vendors going away pleased with the price achieved for their lambs at Lancaster. The overall sale average was 169ppk with lambs 36kg-39kg being the best to sell. The top price of the day came from Will Woodhouse of Nateby selling heavy Texel x lambs to £89. The sale twice topped at 186ppk for Texel and Charolais lambs from John Nuttall, Kendal. Lambs weighing 40kg-42kg regularly selling between £69 and £73. Mule lambs sold to £72 from Steven Park of Halton with all Mule lambs forward averaging £68.66.

Cast Sheep
There was a bumper entry of cast sheep forward at Lancaster with the trade being brisker than expected. Cast sheep sold to £94 a head for Texel’s with other strong Continental ewes regularly selling in the late seventies and into the eighties. Mule ewes sold to £69 from Will Pye of Tarnwater with Mules averaging over £50. In general a very plain show of Horned ewes were hard to sell with many pens selling in the late teens averaging up at £16 for a poor show of Horned sheep.

Prime Bulls & Clean Cattle
Half a dozen prime bulls forward at Lancaster sold to a market average of 193ppk. Bulls sold to 227.5ppk for a Limousin from A Clark & Johnson, Far Orrest with bulls from the same home selling to 212.5ppk. Just a couple of clean cattle forward selling to a top 183.5ppk for dairy bred Angus steers.
