Decent Bank Holiday entry at Lancaster

A better than expected Bank Holiday entry of Prime Sheep saw a total of almost 1400 head through the ring at Lancaster. Trade continued in the level vein of recent days to average 184p/ kg. This was felt to be a very decent trade on the day for a generally plainer sample of sheep. Meat was very good to sell and a top price of 208p/kg went to Geoff & Sue Bargh of Heaton for Texel lambs. These were purchased by Whittakers Butchers of Blackburn. Lambs also sold to a top of £95 to A J Ellis, Sandy Hill, for Texel lambs purchased by Lancaster Meat Co Ltd.

Cast ewes continue to grow in number and were a better trade than expected. Top price of the day was £100 for a Cast Ram from Messrs Townley, Mearsbeck. Ewes sold to £86 to P Cummings, Holme Fields for a pen of Texels.

A reduced entry of Prime Bulls sold to a top of 185.5p/kg to Messrs Geldard, Low Foulshaw who sold a run of bulls to average 182.2p/kg much in line with recent sales.
