Lancaster Monday 19/03/12 Primestock Sale including Easter Show of Prime Cattle

Tremendous Primestock Averages at Lancaster’s Weekly Sale
Prime Hoggs 210p/kg, Cast Ewes £101.37, Prime Bulls £1025.86, Prime Cattle £1030.43

Lancaster sold an increased number of prime hoggs to a very competitive trade with all types averaging 210p/kg. Best meated export types regularly 215p/kg + topping at 239p/kg for 40kg Texels from Barker Farms Ltd purchased by Whittakers Butchers, Blackburn. Hoggs now regularly £95+ topping at £105 for Texel x from J Bargh & Son, North Farm.

Cast sheep were every bit as dear as recent sales with the market average being a staggering £101.37. Best Continental ewes £145 for Charollais from JA & R Geldard, Low Foulshaw and Texels £129 from GH Sanderson, Blackleach House. Mules sold at £85+ topping at £96 with hill bred sheep to £83 for Gritstones from W Pinder Jnr, Longstripes.

The Easter Show of prime beef attracted a quality entry of cattle presented before the judge Mr Roy Schofield. The first prize heifer was awarded to a superb Limousin presented by Mr P Cummings, Holme Fields which later sold for 217.5p/kg and purchased by regular buyer Geoff Riley. Bill Danson sold his second prize Charolas heifer for £1322.75 to Frank Towers.

JM & AG Swarbrick, Bensons Farm presented the first prize bull being a strong Limousin selling for the day’s top price per kilo of £2.18 purchased by Bowland Foods. The Swarbrick family also took the second prize in the bull section with a British Blue selling at £1355.75 purchased by Riley Brothers.
