A rise in lamb numbers saw an increased market average of 163p/kg with best meated sorts regularly making 170p/kg upwards. Topping the days trade at 183p/kg were Texel X lambs from J & M Cockett closely followed by a pen of 16 Texel lambs from P Pye making 182p/kg. £84 was the days top price per head from T &CM Kelsall & Sons.

Today also held the “Bonny Lads” show for mule wether lambs which saw WI & I Atkinson take first prize with a pen of 10 44kg lambs selling for £77/head. Steven Park took second prize with 44kg lambs selling for £69.50.

Pens full of cast sheep were an improved trade topping at £79 for Texel X ewes from JM & MH France & Son. Mules topped at £74 and hill ewes to £50 from Rough Fells.

Prime Bulls sold to 198p/kg (£1,318) with numbers short for the buyers demand. Prime heifers reached 201p/kg (£1,144) with buyers left wanting more.
