North West Auctions Lancaster had forward an increased entry of 1377 prime sheep.  Last week’s steady trade has continued into this week with lambs averaging 160p/kg.  However, handy weight lambs below 40kgs were a rather better trade to average 165p/kg.  The highlight of the sale was a tremendous pen of Texel x lambs from D Cockett of Ingleto.  These lambs met frenetic bidding in the ring eventually selling for £80.50 (201p/kg).  It was clear to see that there were far more heavy lambs in the market this week and this certainly affected the sale average.

Cast ewes were again easier on the week to average £50 selling to a top of £80 for Texel x ewes from AG Butler, Parks Farm Barn.

Prime Bulls to £1468
A reduced entry of prime bulls were an outstanding trade on the day with some tremendous bulls on offer.  T Potter & Son, Graining Field had an excellent run of bulls in topping the market at 203.5p/kg (£1404) for a bull purchased by Bowland Foods of Preston.  Messrs Potter also sold bulls to £1468 (189.5p/kg) this time purchased by Geoff Riley butchers of Dunnockshaw.  Mr Riley also purchased another bull at £1457 from the same producer.   Prime cattle continue to grow dearer with best butchers heifers once again selling to premium prices.  Messrs TH & D Cornthwaite of Low Tarn Green topped the trade at 205.5p/kg for a Belgian Blue heifer purchased by Frank Towers of Wray.  T Potter & Son, Graining Field sold heifers to £1135 (204.5p/kg) for a Limousin heifer purchased by Roy Schofield on behalf of Hartshead Meats of Mossley.
