AMBLESIDE FAIR - Kendal Friday 09/09/11

Posted Friday, 09 September 2011, 11.48am

The final Ambleside Fair in the old Kendal Town Centre Market saw an excellent catalogue entry of 2400 Breeding sheep together with 550 store lambs through the ring on Friday.    As always the sale attracted buyers from throughout the country including show judge Mr Tony Pickford from Deven who has supported the sale for many years.   Championship honours went to Stanley Cook Farming Ltd of Moss Howe whose lambs made £132 (pictured above from judge Tony Pickford with vendor Harvey Cook).  The highest priced sheep of the day were Rough Fell Mules from TLB & J Knowles, High Borrowbridge which made £136.   Trade grew dearer through the sale with Mules averaging £89.54, a rise of £13.54 on the year.  This was very pleasing considering that the majority of sheep were high running fell lambs as always.    Masham gimmers topped at £95 for the first prize pen from JH Atkinson & Partners, Mosergh.  Continental gimmer lambs topped at £92 to Messrs Ladds, Benson Hall.
