Another excellent entry of more than 1800 prime sheep were forward at Lancaster on Monday together with 37 prime cattle & prime bulls.

After last weeks national chart topping trade it was always going to be the case that lambs were cheaper, lthough the overall average of 174p/kg was reasonable on the day.  Standard weight lambs up to 40 kilos averaged 180p/kg, but heavier lambs were cheaper.  A top price of £85 per head went to James Whitton, Low Lodge for an excellent pen of Texel lambs purchased by Roy Schofield for Samuel Howarth Ltd butchers of Diggle.  Lambs also sold to 210p/kg for 39 kilo Texel lambs from D Cockett, Wilson Wood which were purchased at £82 by Dunbia, Preston.    An improved entry of cast ewes continue to sell very well with trade topping at £100 per head for twice for Texels from JK & BE Townley, Mearsbeck and C & B Lowther, Lower Castle O’Trim.
