STRONG CATTLE TRADE ACROSS THE BOARD ON FRIDAY

North West Auctions Lancaster held their weekly sale of store stock and cast cows on Friday. 

Store cattle were once again a very dear trade with buyers drawn from throughout the North of England all short of numbers.  Bullocks averaged £840 a piece selling to a top of £1330 for a pen of Charolais from J & H Davis, Weavers Farm.  Messrs Davis sold twelve cattle to average £1125 on the day.  Store heifers were dearer on the week to average £808 throughout the sale.  Barlow Brothers of Littlewood Hall topped the trade with Limousin heifers at £1100.  

A similar entry of cast cows & over thirty month cattle were also dearer on the week to average 121.5p/kg.  A top price of 157.5p/kg went to JJ & D Huddleston, Over Houses for a Belgian Blue x cow.  The top price cow per head was £1171 to JB & JB Lawson, Bank End for a marvellous Holstein Friesian cow.  Cast heifers topped at 159.5p/kg (£1054) to T Nelson & Partners, Cockerham Hall for a Charolais.  OTM steers peaked at 161.5p/kg (£1172.49) for a Hereford again sold by T Nelson & Partners.  

A light entry of rearing calved saw bull calves averaging £247.50 topping at £340 to CR & A Baxter, New Brows Farm for a Limousin calf.  Heifers sold to a top of £160 for an Angus from T & D Sharp, Gateside Farm.  Many more good quality Continental and Black & White bull calves could easily have been sold on the day.
