LANCASTER CHRISTMAS STORE SALES ATTRACT BUMPER CROWDS

North West Auctions Lancaster Mart held its Annual Christmas Store Stock Shows & Sales this week attracting a fantastic show of quality stock.  

107 Cast/Feeding cows & otm clean cattle averaged a very impressive 116p/kg with a lot of plainer dairy cows forward on the day.  The prize for highest price per kilo beef cow was awarded to W & T Danson & Son, Boundary House for a Belgian Blue cow selling for 184.5p/kg and this cow also won the prize for the top price per head cow at £1352.39.  Top price per kilo dairy cow was 161.5p/kg and went to P & M Crackles, Mill Farm.  

Store cattle sold to a very buoyant trade with bullocks averaging £942 and heifers £828.  A new award was made this year for a show of store cattle in pairs.  The trophy was presented by the Owen Family in memory of Mr Tom Owen.  The first prize winners and the highest price per head on the day of £1380 went to DE & SM Moorhouse, High House for a very smart pair of Limousin bullocks and they were purchased by the judge Mr Rod Owen.  The Photo above shows the Own Family & David Moorhouse (from left Alan & Tom Baldwin, Robert Bothwell, Gillian Bothwell, Rod Owen, David Moorhouse & Mrs Owen).
Heifers topped at £1120 for British Blues from JT & A Armitstead, Bouthwaite.

A small show of store lambs were easily sold with Suffolks to £72, Mule to £69, Cont x £64.50, Herdwick £57.  All lambs averaged £60.65.
Next Week Friday 16th December 120 In-lamb ewes due March to Texel.  

The calf show saw a bumper entry forward selling to an exceptional trade.  Judging was Mr John Young, Lindale who had over 20 show calves presented before him.  Champion of the day was awarded to a British Blue x bull (pictured above) from JC Hodgson, Dillicar which sold for the day’s top price of £420.  Black & Whites are certainly worth a mention averaging £98 ! Topping at £238 for a 6 week old from J & EV Thompson & Son, Hood Ridding with plenty £120+.
