Buyers were drawn from throughout the Northern counties to buy store cattle at Kendal on Thursday.  Prices were at their dearest level for some time.  The sale comprised a complete range of cattle from 5 month sucklers to strong stores.  The bullock trade was topped at £960 by JS & E Wild, Howe Farm for Angus bullocks.  Heifers sold to £800 to David Galbraith, Sunnybank for a pen of young Limousin heifers.

Another pleasing entry of 54 cast cows was the plainest entry of cows in the market this year.  The overall average of 107p/kg was very good on the day.  Cows topped at 165.5p/kg for a Blonde x from JM Smith, Lileyaks.  Heifers sold to 156.5p/kg for a British Blue from J & D Chapman, Wray Farm and averaged 139p/kg including black & whites.
