North West Auctions Lancaster Dairy Sale

A large show of cattle which included the annual bull sale attracted a large crowd of buyers from Scotland to Cheshire along with continued strong local support, 46 customers made purchases at this month’s sale.

Female Champion of the day was awarded to WW & D Boow of Millom showing Dunnerdale Bonair Gipsy bred from 7 generations of VG/EX and recorded giving 32 litres she sold for 1920gns to W Rogerson & Sons, Singleton.

Top price of the day was for Pennine Poppy 951 consigned by Messrs Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead. Sired by Ocean View Zenith giving 36 litres she sold to Messrs Robinson, Burton-in-Lonsdale for 2000gns.

The annual bull sale attracted a quality entry of young bulls which all met keen spirited bidding.

Top price bull was from Messrs Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead for Pennine Rudolph, sired by Joylan Roxell and from the renowned Poppy family, he sold for 2100gns to local farmers J & EV Thompson & Son, Kendal.

The Champion bull of the day was awarded to H & SD Cornthwaite for Kirkwood Elvis bred from 6 generations of VG/EX.

Also this day was the complete herd dispersal on behalf of FW Herd & Son, Hilderstone.

With over 120 cows and heifers stalled a crowd of buyers larger than any seen for quite some time at a Lancaster dairy sale created an atmosphere to be savoured.

Following the brisk trade for the Lancashire Holstein Club sale all cows sold to their full value with the first cow of the day, a fresh 3rd calved cow selling to £1520.

The quality of the cows was clear for everyone to see and the bidding reflected this with 25 cattle making more than £1500 selling to a top of £1820 for a fresh calved heifer sired by Picston Shottle.
