North West Auctions Lancaster Auction Mart held their Annual Prize show & Sale of Breeding Ewes, Gimmer Shearlings & Rams last Wednesday.

As expected all breeding sheep were considerably dearer on the year. Mule gimmer shearlings were in much demand to average £130.50 a rise of £28.50 on the year.

The Special prize show was kindly sponsored by Allflex Livestock Identification.

First prize honours were given to Messrs JK & BE Townley, Mearbeck Farm whose shearlings went on to make £165 per head. However, the top price of the day was given to Messrs P & M Crackles, Mill Farm who sold an excellent run of sheep to a top price of £185 per head. Breeding ewes were an excellent trade throughout averaging £101 for all breeds and ages a rise of almost £26 on the year. Top price of the day went to Jack Wilson, Cooper House with Mule ewes to £130 per head. A reduced entry of breeding rams as always found best quality sorts in much demand. The special prize show of Suffolk Rams saw championship honours go to Mr T Birkett, Hall Croft whose Suffolk Shearling made £620. Reserve Champion honours went to Mr G I Richmond, Oakfield Farm with a Suffolk Lamb which made an excellent price of £480. The top price tup of the day went to Messrs JT & & J Kelsall, Summerlands with a Texel x Shearling at £880.
