Christmas Dairy Sale at Kendal – A Real Cracker

A marvellous entry of 26 dairy cattle graced North West Auctions Kendal Mart this week for the Christmas Dairy Prize Show. The event was kindly sponsored by Semex UK Ltd and the judge was Mr Tony Hunter from Berrier Nr Penrith. The overall champion was a newly calved heifer for the second year running from J & JA Burrow, Thursgill which went on to make £1680.Top price of the day was £2060 for the reserve champion, a newly calved cow from PW & PM Cooper, Upper Hawthwaite Farm. New calved cows averaged £1437 and heifers £1410. Despite the dreadful weather conditions a good ring of buyers supported the sale.

PRIME SHEEP
The largest entry of lambs for many months at Kendal saw 2,262 sold through the ring. Trade was much improved on the week with standard weight lambs averaging165.5p/kg for all breeds. Top price of the day was 185p/kg with Texel lambs from R & B Parker, High Hallbeck catching the eye of local butcher Jim Hadwin of Mansergh. Lambs also sold to £81 per head from EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg Head purchased by Michael Lomax of Bolton.

A reduced entry of cast ewes continue to sell tremendously well every week at Kendal to ring full of buyers. Top price today of £103 went to RT & ME Sutton, Crosscrake Farm for a strong Texel.
