Lancaster Saturday 02/10 Hill Fair Day

Posted Monday, 04 October 2010, 12.19pm

North West Auctions Lancaster Mart held their Annual Lancaster Hill Fair Day Sale of Breeding Sheep last Saturday. The sale included a prize show for Mule Gimmer Lambs which was judged by Mr WM Pye Jnr, Tarnwater Farm. There were some bonny pens of lambs about which was pleasing for a second sale. First prize honours went to Messrs RG & H Preece, Thornbush, whose lambs went onto fetch £88 purchased by Mr Mike Hopper.

The sale also included a complete Flock Dispersal of Scotch Blackface sheep on behalf of Pat Caton, Littledale Hall. These sheep attracted widespread interest and met superbly competitive bidding for all ages of sheep. (picture above shows Pat Caton showing a Scotch Blackface Ram)

All breeding females were in much demand on the day fully competing with earlier season sales and many more sheep could have been sold on the day with the number of buyers around the ring. The sale commenced with an excellent entry of breeding rams of all breeds. These topped at £650 for a Texel Shearling from Messrs T & CM Kelsall & Son, Brown Brook. A small entry of store lambs included quite a run of hill bred lambs. All types of store lambs were in much demand with some pleasing prices on the day.
