NWA Auctioneer Wins Nationals Award

By Olivia Muir, 16 October 2015 –

North West Auctions Auctioneer and Trainee Land Agent, Ian Atkinson, has been awarded the Farmers Guardian Mart’s the Hearts New Auctioneer of the Year Award. Ian, 25 from Scorton, won the award by taking a combination of a public vote and also the opinion of a judging panel.

Ian was nominated for the award and was short-listed to the final five, a short-list which also included one other NWA Auctioneer, Will Alexander. After making it to the final five, the awards were then opened up to a public where over 5,000 votes were received for the categories ‘Auctioneer of the Year’, ‘New Auctioneer of the Year’ and ‘Auction Mart Café of the Year’. Together with the public vote, judges Andrew Wright, executive secretary to the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland, Chris Dodds, executive secretary for the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association and Oliver McEntyre, Barclays National Agriculture Specialist, gave their opinion on the finalists, resulting in Ian securing the top spot and awarding him this national award.

On winning his award Ian Atkinson said “It is an honour and a privilege to have been awarded the New Auctioneer of the Year title. I am very grateful to all the public who took the time to vote for me. To win a national competition like this against some extremely talented and gifted auctioneers is a very proud moment in my career and I must thank the people who have supported me over the years and look forward to working within the agricultural and auctioneering sector for many years to come”.
