PRIME LAMBS
More lambs were forward today with 718 going under the gavel, to average out at a pleasing 257p/kg, with over half the sale being hill bred. Heavy lambs continue to add up nicely, with Cheviots selling to £153 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof with Texels selling to a top of £143 from DR Preston, Caton. A ring full of Beltex cross lambs sold at £141 from AG Butler, Hambleton. Heavy lambs, full of meat were regularly £135 to £140 or 260p/kg to 270p/kg. Handy weight export type lambs continue to sell to a fast trade, with the best to £130 for Texels from AG Butler, Hambleton or 290p/kg for Beltexs from KA Purtill, Wigan with these sorts regularly 275p/kg to 285p/kg. A top price of 290p/kg was achieved twice for texels from CD&HL Mason, Caton and AG Butler, Hambleton. Mashan sold to £123 from WI&AM Atkinson, Bleasdale who sold a pen of Mules to £119.50. Other pens of Mules sold to £118.50 from RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead. Swaledales sold to a top of £106 for a pen of 24 from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead.
CAST SHEEP
105 ewes forward with all selling to a sharper trade. No real super heavy ewes forward with Texels to £125 from CD&HL Mason, Caton and Suffolks to £117 from H Hesketh & Son, Longton who sold a pen of medium fit type Mules to £78. Cheviots sold to £76 from DR Preston, Caton with Swaledales to £85 A Blacklidge, Wigan.
STORE LAMBS
250 store lambs forward with every single pen selling to there full value, and more could have easily been sold to our full ringside of buyers. A super pen of Suffolks from PG Thornton, Scorton sold to £113 with Texels from the same home to £108. A full ring of long term smart bred Beltex cross lambs from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale sold to £91. More hill bred lambs of offer, with most of these being longer term lambs. Charolais cross Herdwicks sold to £74 from W Pinter & Son, Clitheroe, Mule wethers to £72 form J Gardner, Bay Horse and Cheviot to £84 from SE&J Gorst, Littledale. All lambs forward averaged £80.50.
