North West Auction were proud to host the annual show and sale of Rough Fell Breeding rams on behalf of the Rough Fell Sheep Breeders Association whom we thank for their continued support. The pre-sale show was kindly sponsored by H Pigney and Son. The pre-sale judges where Aged Rams Tony Ellis, Shearling Rams Darren Douthwaite, Rams Lambs Tony Harrison and overall championship judged by Vic Guy, who we thank for their time and expertise. A special mention goes to Richard Simpson for judging the best mouth ram.
The sale commenced with aged rams with the first into the ring topping this section, Millriggs Damson which was awarded the first prize rosette in the show and went on to sell for 500gns from SW Huck, Ravestonedale. Not far behind at 400gns was a five-shear ram from S&W Dickinson, Tebay. All aged lambs forward averaged £280.
A keen interest was shown by potential buyers for well grown and bred ram lambs, the sale topped with lot twenty five a marvellous tup lamb sired by Longgills Enhance consigned by MJ&JD Handley, Sedbergh. Samuel Milburn was awarded the first prize ram lamb in the show, this much admired lamb was sired by High Lane Dazzler and went on to sell for 800gns. All tup lambs forward averaged £410.
The overall championship was awarded to the first prize large breeders shearling ram consigned by TLB & J Knowles, Selside with High Borrowbridge Felix. This much-admired powerful tup was sired by Black Horse Caramel and mother sired by Catholes Alarm with the dams breeding going back to the recording breaking High Cark Yankee and went onto sell for the top price of the day of 4500gns. The next call was 4200gns for High Cark Fabulous sired by Catholes Concorde which was consigned by I & J Mallinson, Selside selling to VR Guy. This was followed by High Cark Fred selling to 1400gns and High Cark Ford to 1400gns both from I & J Mallinson. At 3500gns was Catholes Flash sired by a home bred ram from MJ & JD Handley purchased by I & J Mallinson. The Capstick family of High Lane consigned a good run of tups with the tup from Ryan Capstick leading the way selling to 2900gns with High Lane Fez whom was sired by Lockbank Y2. This was followed by Brownber Finesse by Cathole Finesse selling to 2100gns and 2000gns with Brownber Fury by Catholes Destroyer from MP & A Capstick with others to 1600gns with Brownber Flame. The consignment from RA Steadman sold to a top of 2500gns with Ellergill Fred sired by High Cark Credit and Ellergill Frank to 1500gns. The consignment from NC & S Dodd saw the consignment sell to a top of 1900gns with Longgill Future sired by Holme Farm Champion and Longgill Fashion to 1800gns sired by High Cark Blizzard.
