Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auction Mart Sale of Calves, Stirks, OTM and Store Cattle - Friday 27th May 2022.

Calves & Stirks
The end of may stirk sale at Lancaster had an entry in excess of 100 forward. Taking top spot today was a couple of 10 month old Limousin suckler bred bulls selling to £1280 and £1150 from S Bosworth, Burnley. Topping the bullock section was a consignment of 8 and 9 month old Aberdeen Angus bullocks from G&D Ball & Son, Little Eccleston selling to £890 and £860. This was followed by £840 for a pair of Aberdeen Angus bullocks from JW Thwaites, Tebay. Bullocks which were fit to turn out and graze were in demand and eagerly bid for. The heifer trade today peaked at £840 for a consignment of Limousins from WJ&EA Woodhouse, Nateby.
Lancaster enjoyed another strong calf trade today with 83 forward which were all eagerly bid for. Leading the way today was the consignment from RT Halhead, Cockerham selling a run of 4-6 week old British Blues all sired by Norbreck Genetics bulls, bull calves sold to £405 and £400, with heifer calves from this home selling to £340 at 5 weeks sold. Other British Blue bull calves to achieve £400 was JP&C Robson, Catterall and AD&R Milner, Claughton on Brock with AJ&AJ Gibons, St Michaels also selling British Blue bulls to £400. Charolais bull claves peaked at £395 from GJ&G Billington, Garstang. Aberdeen Angus bull calves sold to a top of £390 and £385 from Tom Barron Farms, Woodplumpton with plenty selling in the mid 300 hundreds. Aberdeen Angus heifer calves from the same home sold to £300, £290 and £280. Just a handful of black and white calves forward today sold to £128 from B&MJ Nelson & Son, Milnthorpe.

Store Cattle
A few less store cattle on the market today in which more are needed to meet the demand from buyers, short keep cattle was especially a strong trade with the price of prime cattle very strong.
The consignment from R&EA Gardner, Kendal led the way selling Charolais heifers to £1680 and a pen of Charolais bullocks to £1610. British Blue bullocks peaked at £1570 from I Atkinson & Son, Warton. Other Continental bullocks saw Simmentals sell to £1480 from BW&LM Kirkby, Wennington. Native bullocks are always good to sell at Lancaster with a pen of three Aberdeen Angus bullocks selling to £1500 from J&JM Walmsley, Pilling with another pen of three Aberdeen Angus bullocks selling to £1460 from J Oddie & Son, Balderstone. Plenty more sold around the £1400 mark.
Dairy bullocks peaked at £1290 from MJ&LC Lund, Quernmore for Fleckviehs. Black and White bullocks peaked at £1250 from C&B Cummings & Son, Preesall. Montbeliarde bulls sold to £1260 from WR&CM Lawrenson, Winmarleigh. Friday 3rd June will see the sale as normal at Lancaster with vendors urged to enter their cattle as soon as possible.

OTM & Cast Cattle
A new record market averaged today at Lancaster saw all OTM cattle forward averaged an impressive 194p/kg. Top pence per kilo today was 264.5p/kg for a Simmental steer that grossed at £1542 from EJ Ward & Son, Nether Kellet. An OTM Blonde heifer sold to 261.5p/kg from MJ Whitworth, Bolton Le Sands. British Blue cows sold to a top of 257.5p/kg from MA&JA Winn, Burneside. Beef cows sold to a top of £1801 a head for an Aberdeen Angus from RR&M Bamber, Kendal. Limousin cows peaked at £1756 from B Heys, St Helens. Dairy cows sold to a top of 219.5p/kg for a Fleckvieh from B&AC Barnes, Kirkby Lonsdale. Dairy cows peaked at £1732 for a Holstein from Lawsons Farm, Cockerham, with plenty more dairy cows regally selling between £1400-£1500. Cast cows will be required as normal on Friday 3rd June with companies looking for them for the Monday morning following on from the two bank holidays.
