Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, Monday 23rd May 2022.

Spring Lambs
Numbers start to come forward with Lancaster having an entry of just short of 500 today which sold to much more interest, as all the buyers forward were actively bidding on spring lambs. There was an overall market average of 315p/kg.
The consignment of heavy weight Suffolk and Texel x lambs from JS Horner, Ingleton led the way selling to £159, £155, £154 and £150 twice. This was followed by 48kg lambs selling to £154 from P Lawrenson & Son, Chorley. Charollais lambs peaked at £148 from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale. This was followed by the consignment of Texel lambs from RA Holmes, Inskip selling to £147 and £145. Beltex lambs peaked at 370p/kg or £144 from J Burr, Quernmore. Plenty more lambs could have been sold today to the advantage of vendors with more required each week.

Prime Hoggs
A very mixed show of hoggs forward today as the season now draws to a close, good quality hoggs sold to a sharper trade today. George Newsham, Galgate led the way selling Texel hoggs to £144 and £140. Beltex hoggs peaked at £134 from M Broadhurst, West Orton. This was followed by Texel hoggs to £132.50 from T&E Burrow, Slyne. Horned hoggs peaked at £100 for Swaledales from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasedale.

Cast Sheep
The cast sheep trade remains very buoyant with over 100 forward today selling to an impressive market average of £127. Leading the way was Beltex ewes from M Broadhurst, West Orton selling to £184. Bleu Du Maine ewes sold to £168 from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale with others from the same home to £158. Texel x ewes sold to £166 from RA Holmes, Inskip. Pure Sufffolk ewes sold to £159 form A Gardner, Bay Horse. Suffolk x ewes sold to £156 and £154 from JS Hornet, Ingleton with plenty more strong ewes selling about the £150 mark. A run of Mule ewes from James Burr, Quernmore sold to £136, £133 and £132 twice with plenty more selling in the one hundred and thirty pound region. Upland ewes saw Swaledales sell to £108 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale with Herdwicks selling to £100 from David Hough, Dolphinholme.
