Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auctions Weekly Sale of Calves, Dairy, OTM and Store Cattle - Friday 1st July 2022

Dairy Cattle
The fortnightly sale of dairy cattle at NWA Lancaster once again saw new customers in attendance from the Northern Counties and Cheshire in addition to the strong local support all keen to secure additional and replacement stock with many leaving short of requirements.
New calved heifers sold to a top of £2400 for a pedigree heifer from JE & J Pye, Quernmore with non registered heifers selling at £2080 and £2000 from J & JA Burrow, Grayrigg. A red & white heifer from France Bros, Littledale being slightly light on a quarter achieved £1650.
The next sale is on Friday 15th July with vendors encouraged to enter cattle to take advantage of the current high market demand. This sale will include the 2nd part dispersal of 20 in-calf and in-milk from B Mallinson & Son, Levens.

Calves & Weanlings
The weekly sale of calves at Lancaster saw an entry of 60 forward. Weanling Charolais bulls from WG Farms, Cockerham led the way selling to £540, £535 twice, £530 and £505 with heifers to £440. The British Blue bull calf trade topped at £400 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale, £390 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale and £370 from JP&C Robson, Garstang. Simmental bulls sold to £350 and £340 from Lawsons Dairy, Cockerham.
The heifer calf trade peaked at £300 from a British Blue from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale.
Black and White bull calves twice peaked at £180 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale with others to £155, £150 and £140 with all Black and White bull calves forward averaging £114.

Store Cattle
It was good to be back over the 200 mark for the store cattle forward at Lancaster with less short term cattle on the market today and more stores about with all types in plenty of demand and the trade remaining strong. Simmental steers from L Goodier & Son, Lea led the way selling to £1660, this was followed by British Blues to £1510 from M Shepherd & Son, Pilling with a pen of four British Blue bullocks at £1500 from C&B Lowther, Over Wyresdale. Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to £1510 and £1500 from Cowell & Moore, Woodplumpton. Dairy bullocks sold to £1480 for Fleckviehs from CW Holt, Thornton in Cleveleys followed by Montbeliardes to £1420 from JS Clarke & Sons, Catforth with plenty of strong bullocks selling in the £1400’s.
British Blues toped at heifer trade at £1420 from M Shepherd & Sons, Pilling. Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to £1390 from JA Carr, Chorley with a pen of four Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1370 from T Robson & Son, Poulton Le Fylde. Plenty of strong heifers sold around the £1300 mark.

OTM / Cast Cattle
The weekly sale of OTM cattle at Lancaster had an increased entry of 110 forward selling to another strong market average of 186.9p/kg with the trade just as firm as seen over previous weeks. Beef cows sold to a top of 239.5p/kg for Limousins consigned from the Isle of Man with other Limousin cows to 237.5p/kg or £1688 from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet followed by 234.5p/kg or £1636 from D&DW Prickett, Farlton. Plenty of well fleshed beef cows selling over to 220p/kg mark. Beef cows today sold to a top of £1768 for a Hereford from GJT&V Parkinson, Preesall with British Blue cows peaking at £1670 from EJ&P Burrow, Milnthorpe. Dairy cows twice sold to 214.5p/kg from Lawsons Dairy, Cockerham and AW&AM Park & Son, Ellel. Lawsons Dairy sold to the top price per head at £1613 followed by £1594 from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe and £1560 from JB&C Lamb, Thurnham with plenty more selling around the £1500 mark.
Cast bulls sold to a top of £1822 for a Limousin from A Clark & Johnson, Windermere.
