J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Pigs, Sheep with Lambs at Foot, Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, Tuesday 28th June 2022.

All Classes of Pigs

A full alley way of prime pigs were forward for the second sale in June, with a top price of £92 achieved for Large White x gilts from Mr Trotter, Wigton with others at £90 from BR Harrison, Stavley and C Dean & LJ Brennand, Clapham. Todays sale comprised of predominately light weight coloured pigs and boars which were a selective trade with buyers purchasing pigs to a tight specification. Prime hoggs sold to 100p/kg from BR Harrison, Stalvey. Cull sows sold to £50 and cull boars to £40. Store and weaner pigs sold to £53 for Large White x from Northrigg Hill Farm, Brampton who sold others at £49. ¾ bred Pietrains from A&S Ryder sold to £46 with younger weaners selling to £27 from the same home.
It is essential that all vendors pre entre pigs with the office prior to the sale to assist with canvassing buyers prior to the sale.

Sheep with Lambs at Foot

A handful of sheep with lambs at foot were forward today from AJ Robinson, Yealand Redmayne saw Suffolk ewes with twin Continental lambs sell to £270 and £250.

Spring Lamb

The weekly sale of prime lambs at Junction 36 had an entry of 1107 forward that saw well fleshed in specification lambs selling to a sharper trade than the previous week, with 45-52kg lambs averaging 310p/kg and 39-45kg lambs averaging 302p/kg with an overall market average of 296p/kg. Heavy weight Texel lamb from R&E Ladds, Kendal topped the market selling to £171 purchased by Westmorland Services. This was followed by other heavy weight Texels to £163.50 from TA Teasadale, Newton in Cartmel, £161 from JN&BJ Bowes, Crook, £160 from T Ellis, New Hutton and £158.50 from DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland with Texels from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington to £158. Heavy weight Suffolks peaked at £165 from TH Garnett & Son, Barrow in Furness with other heavy weight Suffolks to £157.50 from DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland followed by £155 from M&RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe. Heavy weight Hampshire’s peaked at £158 from J&O Galbraith & Son, Endmoor with plenty of pens of heavy weight lambs selling in the region of £150 and more. Best confirmation lambs saw Beltexs sell to 360p/kg or £157 from T Ellis, New Hutton with plenty of pens selling between 340-350p/kg with strong competition ring side for these better types of lambs at Junction 36. Well finished commercial lambs 40kg plus regularly sold in excess of the 300p/kg mark with a busy ring of active buyers forward at J36.

Prime Hoggs

The prime hogg trade remains buoyant with well fleshed hoggs selling in excess of the 200p/kg mark regularly. Trade peaked at £132 from JB Jackson & Son, Grange Over Sands. Hill bred hoggs saw 40kg Herdwicks sell to £116 from George Probert, Clitheroe.

• Texels sold to a top of £166 from A Ashworth, Preston.
• Suffolks sold to £164 from J Wilson & Son, Appleby.
• A pen of 15 Lleyn ewes sold to £137 from JA&R Geldard & son, Levens.
• Cheviots sold to a top of £138 from JJ&M Metcalfe, Kirkby Lonsdale.
• A pen of 10 Rough Fells sold to £133 from J Wilson & Sons, Appleby.
• Swalesdale to £119 from JD Dixon, Flookburgh.
