Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, Monday 4th July 2022

Spring Lambs
The largest entry of spring lambs of the season saw 973 forward selling to a much improved trade on the previous week, with an impressive overall market average of 323p/kg or £135.83 a head. Heavy weight Texels from RT Owen, Widnes led the way twice selling to £165 this was followed by heavy weight Texels from J&R Waller, Killington selling their run of lambs to £161, £160, £156, £154 and £153. 50kg Texels from B&J Preston, Caton sold to £159 followed by 48kg Texels to £156 form W&D Bradley, Goosnargh. 46kg Texels twice sold to £150 from Pilling Hall Farm, Pilling with other 46kg Texels to £150 from S&J France, Over Wyresdale. Suffolks at 46kg sold to £150 from J&R Waller, Killington with others Suffolk lambs to £150 and £149 from KA Purtill, Wigan. Plenty of pens regularly sold in the £140’s. Mules lambs are now starting to come forward which saw 51kg lambs sell to £140 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Plenty of pens of tidy bred Beltex and Texel lambs sold in the region of 350p/kg, peaking at 375p/kg from M Coxhead, Littlehool, followed by 365p/kg from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham.
Next weeks sale will include a lamb kindly donated by Kevin Purtill with proceeds going to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association.

Prime Hoggs
A small offering of hoggs forward today which peaked at £98 from T&E Burrow, Slyne.

Cast Sheep
Lancaster boasted another good entry of 371 cast sheep forward today with trade sharper than anticipated. Cast tups lead the way selling to £250 for a Texel from J Burr, Quernmore. Leicester tups peaked at £194 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Texels ewes sold to £200 from B&J Preston, Caton. Texel x ewes sold to £168 from JR Gorst, Dolphinholme, £162 from J Gardner, Bay Horse and £158 from R&B Parker, Killington with plenty more selling over the £150 mark. Mule ewes sold to £144 from J Burr, Qurnmore with plenty of pens of strong Mule ewes selling in the one thirties. Leicester ewes sold to £142 from AC&K Pye, Abbeystead. Horned sheep peaked at £126 from MS Cleator, Isle of Man with Dalesbred ewes to £120 from T&D Wright, Roeburndale East. Swaledale ewes sold to £113 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasedale.
