Prime Hoggs
Prime hoggs in Lancaster saw to a much-improved trade of 270p/kg, which included 40% of the entry forward being Mule and Horned hoggs. Andrew Butler took top spot this week selling 52kg Beltexs to £158 with Texel hoggs from the same home to £142, £141 and Charollais to £139. Heavy weight Texels from GR&RA Surtees, Stodday sold to £156. The consignment of Beltex and Texel hoggs from R&DL Cornthwaite, Nateby sold to £147, £146, £143 and £140 twice. JS Horner, Ingleton had a consignment of Beltex and Texel hoggs sold to £141 and £140. This was closely followed by the run of hoggs from W&J Parkinson, Garstang selling to £138. Other noted prices saw Texels to £138 and £137 from GF&EE Holt, Chipping. This was followed by £137 from JA Lambert, Out Rawcliffe and TR Prickett, Hutton, with many more pens selling in the early one thirties. Continental hoggs sold to 343p/kg from JS Horner, Ingleton with others to 323p/kg for Beltexs from W&J Parkinson, Garstang, with many pens of handy weighted Continental hoggs easily selling in excess of the 300p/kg mark. Hill hoggs peaked at £127 for 49kg Mules from AG Butler, Hambleton with Cheviots to £120 at 44kg from P Prickett, Hutton Roof and others to £119 at 40kg from the same home. Dalesbreds peaked at £115 from T&CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping.
Cast Sheep
A fresh buyer on the market today ensured a that the cast sheep trade continues to go from strength to strength. Leading the way today was the consignment of pure Texel ewes from GR&RA Surtees, Stodday selling to £188, £176 and £160 with Texel cast rams from the same home to £140. Charollais tups peaked at £172 from R Doran, Winmarleigh. Plenty more Continental ewes sold into the one thirties. Leicester ewes sold to a top of £134 from RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead. Mule ewes sold to £118 from GF&EE Holt, Chipping, with others to £113 from M&J Ronson, Pilling. Plenty more pens of Mules sold in excess of the £100 mark. Horned tups sold to £122 from A Chard, Roeburndale.
