Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auction Mart Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle and Store Cattle - Friday 1st April 2022

Calves & Weanlings
Quality continues to demand a premium in the ring at Lancaster again today with plenty of quality 6 to 8 week old calves selling in the region of four hundred pounds. A smart run of British Blue calves from AD & R Milner, Claughton on Brock lead the way selling bulls to £450 and heifers to £400. British Blue bull at six weeks old from RT Halhead, Cockerham sold to £400. The consignment of British Blue heifers from AJ & AJ Gibbons, St Michaels sold to £385, £380 and £360 twice. The consignment of British Blues from T & CM Kelsall, & Sons, Chipping sold bulls to £380 and heifers £370. Leading the way in Limousin section was returning customers Antony and Lindsay Gardner, Quernmore selling bulls to £365. A run of 10 week old Angus heifers from T & CM Kelsall, & Sons, Chipping where eagerly bid for selling to £305 and £275 twice. Young beef calves continue to be sticky. A special entry Holstein heifers at eight weeks old from AJ & AJ Gibbons, St Michaels met plenty of demand selling to £300. A young entry of black and white calves peaked at £105 from J & G Thornley, Kirkham.
Once again more interest ringside for calves today at Lancaster with more required.

Store Cattle
A larger number of over 200 store cattle were forward today in Lancaster which saw short keep store cattle a stronger trade, with many dead weight outlines reporting a lift in the prime cattle prices in the currently weeks. L Parsons & Sons, Levens once again led the way selling a pen of three Aberdeen Angus bullocks to £1640. Next call was a pen of four British Blues to £1600 from J Prest &Son, Bay Horse whom sold a pen of diary bullocks consisting of Norwegian Reds and Fleckviehs to £1540. The consignment from M S Dugdale & Sons, Tewitfield sold Limousin and Aberdeen Angus bullocks to £1560 and £1550. Charollais bullocks peaked at £1500 from MJ Waller, Lupton. A large number of short keep bullocks today sold between £1400 and £1500.
The heifer trade peaked at £1500 from GF&EE Holt, Chipping, with Limousin and Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1400 from L Parsons, & Sons, Levens. Plenty of short keep heifers today sold between the £1300 and £1400 mark. As turn out day creeps ever closer, plenty of strong grazing type cattle sold between £1100 and £1250. Friesian bullocks were a sharper trade today, peaking at £1420 from J Prest & Son, Bay Horse with plenty of good Friesian bullocks regularly selling around the £1200 mark.

OTM Cattle
This cast cow trade keeps getting better and better, with a remark about overall market average today of 181p/kg for the 115 forward. All Black and White dairy cows averaged an impressive 177p/kg. The overall market average per head was a staggering £1135.
Young Montbeliarde cows sold to 239.5p/kg or £1700 from WR&CM Lawrenson, Winmarleigh. Plenty of young cattle sold between 205-225p/kg today. The best dairy cows sold in the region of 200p/kg with top price in the OTM ring being £1740 for a five year old Holstein Friesian from JS&KM Wilson & Son, Kendal followed by another 5 year old cow to £1711 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. There was a large number of dairy cows today selling between £1400 and £1600.
