Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep and Sheep - 31st May 2021

SPRING LAMBS
No bank holiday blues at Lancaster this week with an overall market average of 329 p/kg with well finished and heavy weight lambs selling to a premium. George Sanderson and Family, Catforth topped the market selling 59kg Texel lambs to £176. A cracking consignment of lambs from JS Horner, Ingleton sold Texel x Beltex lambs to £175, £174 and £166 this consignment also topped the p/kg selling to 405p/kg and 400p/kg. Suffolk lambs sold to £174 and £164 from Ivan Slater, Claughton-On-Brock with other Suffolk lambs selling to £160 from D J Casson & Son, Slyne. Other noted prices for Texels were £159 from GH Sanderson & Family, £156 twice from W Barnes, Lancaster with plenty more pens easily selling round the £150 mark. A good ring side of buyers at Lancaster continues to ensure a buoyant trade each week and more lambs are needed.

PRIME HOGGS
Prime hoggs season is drawing to an end but well fleshed hoggs are in plenty of demand and are still eagerly bid for. Leading the way this week was a consignment of Texels from T & E Burrow, Slyne selling to £138 and £130.

CAST SHEEP
There was a fewer cast sheep on offer this week with the trade far sharper than expected, surpassing many vendors expectations and leaving well chuffed with their trade. Hitting the top spot this week was a shapey Texel ewe from George Newsham, Galgate selling to £155 this was closely followed by the consignment from J Gardner, Bay Horse selling to £148 and £147. Plenty of pens of continental ewes today easily sold between £130-£140. All Texel ewes froward today averaged £130.14. The Mule trade today was topped at £119 from Dave and Karen Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with a pen of five with other Mule ewes from the same home achieving £116. Mule ewes averaged an impressive £113. Horned sheep met plenty of demand selling to £116 for Dalesbreds from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton. Highlight of the day was a pen of ten Rough Fell ewes selling to £115 from WJ & E Woodhouse, Nateby. Cast tups were in short supply today with a big Zwartble tup selling to £172 from Janet Simpson, Barnacre. More cast sheep are required on a Monday morning for the ever-increasing ring of buyers.
