Lancaster Prime Hoggs top at £170

Breeding Sheep

Lancaster sheep with lambs at foot enjoyed another strong trade. Taking top this week was the consignment from Dave and Karen Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe, peaking at £220 with aged Mule ewes and Texel twin lambs with three further pens from the same home selling to £218.
There are some exciting consignments entered at Lancaster for Monday 29th March including some pure Texel ewes and lambs - keep your eyes peeled for the catalogue.

Prime Hoggs

Lancaster had a slightly easier trade in keeping with other early markets on the day and the trade at the weekend. A larger proportion of hill hoggs were in the market leading to an overall market average of 272p/kg for 563 forward.

Another great consignment from GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston led the way with their Beltex hoggs selling to £158, £156, £150 and £148,. This consignment also topped the market at 352p/kg. GR & A Foy, Conder Green sold a pen of shapely Dutch Texel hoggs to £156. The consignment of Texel hoggs from W & J Livesey, Inskip sold to £146 and £140.

Hill hoggs topped at £127 for Mules from S Bosworth, Burnley, followed by Cheviots to £126.50 from J & H Davis, Cabus. Masham hoggs twice sold to £125 from DC Miller, Claughton on Brock and from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton. Horned hoggs sold to £123.50 from M & YS Barker, Halton with Dalesbreds to £121 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton.

Cast Sheep

The cast sheep trade remains very buoyant at Lancaster. Leading the way was a consignment of Dutch Texel ewes from GR & Foy, Conder Green selling to £155, £137 and £130. Mule ewes sold to £114 from WN & D Smith, Cockerham with Mashams topping at £114 from DC Miller, Claughton on Brock. Hill bred ewes sold to a top of £80 for Herdwicks from S Bosworth, Burnley, followed by Cheviots to £78 from J & H Davis, Cabus and £76 for Dalesbreds from DC Miller.
