PEDIGREE HEIFERS SELL TO £2620 AT NWA & AVERAGE £2120
NWA Lancaster held its popular monthly dairy sale which saw 148 lots offered for sale with a large crowd of local and travelled buyers in attendance alongside several successful internet bidders.
The sale commenced with the collective sale which once again saw a high quality catalogued entry sell to a top price of £2620 for ‘Joylan Pharo Roxy’ consigned by AE & A Swales, Blackburn and after competitive and spirited bidding find a new home in Coleraine, Ireland. Close behind at £2520 was ‘Quernmore Buttercup 212’ from JE & J Pye & son, Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead sold ‘Pennine Peace 833’ at £2350 with a trio achieving £2300 being ‘Garsby Gras Rolie’ from W&G Cornthwaite, Garstang and Pennine Poppy 1539 and Pennine Nancy Lass 204’ from Drinkall Bros, Abbeystead. Other heifers to break the £2000 barrier including ‘Goadsbarrow Norma 7’ from A.V Lord & Co, Aldingham selling at £2080.
DISPERSAL SALES
A feature of todays sale was the first part dispersal of in milk and in calf cows on behalf of P Fargher, Isle of Man.
In milk cows sold £2020 for 2nd Calvers with others at £2000, £1880. Older cows sold to £1780 for 4th calvers, £1700 for 3rd calvers.
YOUNGSTOCK
North West Auctions conducted the sale of the in calf and bulling heifers on behalf of JK & A Bowness & Son, Whatsset which saw a large attendance of buyers keen to purchase stock having previously purchased cows from the milking herd dispersal in 2020. The heifers were all sired by Stardale Roberto and in calf to a Aberdeen Angus bull due June/July and sold to £1520, £1500, £1460.
Several Flekvieh x heifers were also included having run with the Aberdeen Angus Bull and sold to £1640, £1620 twice.
Following on from the in calf heifers the 2019 crop of heifers were now suitable for bulling were offered for sale and sold to a top price of £1000 for Kirkby Premier Sired heifer, others by this same sire sold at £960 with £920 achieved for heifers sired by West Coast Neptune. A jersey heifer sired by Sunset Canyon achieved £560.
More youngstock of all classes and types are needed to meet buyer demand.
