Lancaster Prime Hoggs top at £170

Breeding Sheep

The trade was strong this week for sheep with lambs at foot with a younger offering of lambs. J & A Heaps & Son, Barnacre took top spot once again selling aged Continental ewes with Texel twins to £260 and £258. Continental ewes with single Texel lambs sold to £200 from the same home. The consignment from Edward and Robert Slater, Barnacre sold Continental ewes with twins to £255 and £252. Aged Mule ewes with twins sold to £250 twice from David and Karen Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe.

Prime Hoggs

This trade continues to go from strength to strength with an impressive overall market average of 293p/kg with an SQQ average of 297p/kg. Hoggs weighing 39kg - 45kg averaged a whopping 305p/kg. Lancaster hoggs averaged £117.93 with a third of the hoggs forward lightweights.
Top price this week was £170 from JE Parkinson & Son, Quernmore with Beltex hoggs weighing 52kg. Beltex hoggs from the same home sold to £162 weighing 44kg, with others to £156, £153 and £152. The consignment averaged £154.60 including a pen of Mules with pens of Beltex hoggs from this home selling to 368p/kg, 364p/kg & 363p/kg.

Andrew Butler took the honours of top pence per kilogram this week selling to 377p/kg and 372p/kg with 43kg Beltex hoggs grossing at £162 and £160. Kevin Purtill, Wigan sold to 350p/kg twice with his consignment peaking at £140. Cardwell Farms sold Texel hoggs to £146 and £141. The consignment from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth saw heavy weight Texels sell to £144 and £141. Barker Farms, Cockerham sold Texels to £139.
Mule hoggs sold to a top of £136 from JE Parkinson & Son, Quernmore. Cheviots peaked at £133 from Kevin Purtill and Barker Farms, Cockerham followed by £132 from J & H Davis, Cabus.

Cast Sheep

The trade remains very buoyant for all specifications of cast sheep with them eagerly bid for. Texel ewes from CD & HL Mason, Caton took top spot selling to £135, followed by £130 from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel and £125 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth. Mule ewes peaked at £120 from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel. Horned ewes sold to £108 for Lonks from S Bosworth, Burnley with others selling to £106 from A Brown, Littledale. Trade will remain strong over upcoming weeks with vendors strongly advised to take advantage of the trade and cash in any passengers.
