Calves and Stirks

Lancaster had a reduced number of calves forward this week, once again selling to a strong trade. The consignment of British Blue calves from JP & C Robson, Garstang sold bulls to £410 and £375 with heifers from the same home selling to £370. Month old British Blue bulls sold to £310 from Barber Farms, Claughton on Brock. Angus bull calves sold to £290 and £280 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. Angus heifer calves sold to £285 and £270 from Wannop Farms, Overton. Black and White bull calves this week selling to £110 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale.

Store Cattle

Lancaster saw all types of cattle forward this week, meeting another strong trade and eagerly bid for. Taking the top spot this week was JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with British Blues steers selling to £1440 and £1400 for Limousin steers. The consignment of Angus cattle from Jim Clark, Preston saw a couple of steers to £1420 and £1410. Angus heifers from the same home sold to £1330 and £1300. British Blue steers from R & DM Rossall & Sons, Pilling sold to £1390 with Angus’ from JD & GM Bracken, Catterall selling to £1370. The consignment from H Chapman and Son, Middleton sold Charolais steers to £1370 and Limousins to £1340. Shorthorn steers from EW & CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine sold to £1340. Dairy steers sold to £1270 for Flekviehs from S Fisher, Croston with black and white bullocks selling to £1260 from K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel.

Cast Cows and OTM Cattle.

The cast cow trade at Lancaster shows no sign of slowing down, an increased entry of 104 forward selling to an overall market average of 142p/kg. Now if that isn’t an average to tempt you to sell cast cows at Lancaster, then what is?
An OTM Limousin heifer from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead sold to 209.5p/kg or £1393. Prime bulls forward today sold to 197.5p/kg for Stabilisers from AE & PC Capstick, Heversham with Stabiliser bulls selling to a top of £1487, others selling to £1306 from A Dixon & Son, Selside. Beef cows sold to a top of £1273 from SJ & R Handley, Westhouse for a Limousin. This week saw dairy cows reach new heights with best cows selling between 150-155p/kg regularly, topping at £1270 from T Taylor, Woodplumpton. Other sold to £1228 from H Wright & Son, Helsington, £1225 from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton and £1210 from AW & AM Park & Sons, Ellel.
