Store Cattle

Lancaster had a catalogued entry of 230 store cattle. There wasn’t as good a show as previous weeks with no stars on offer, but the recent high prices continued strongly despite a decrease in the deadweight market.

Bullocks averaged £1151.59 and heifers averaged £1043.49.

E J Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet hit the top spot with a Charolais bullock which realised £1380. Herefords from J Prest & Son, Bay Horse sold to a solid £1340, closely followed by a pair of Aberdeen Angus topping at £1330 from L Parsons & Son, Levens. Limousins peaked at £1300 consigned by A & M Brennand, Chapel Le Dale, with British Blues from J & J M Walmsley, Garstang also making £1300.
In the heifer section a Simmental consigned by J D & G M Bracken, Garstang realised £1240, with his pen of 3 Aberdeen Angus topping at £1200. T G & B Todd, arsdale British Blues realised £1230 and the Limousins from T & E Garlick & Son, Freckleton hit £1170.

OTM’s

Lancaster had 119 OTM Cows and Heifers go under the hammer this morning with all types short of buyers requirements. Once again Lancaster average was over and above other local centres.  OTM cows averaged 128.2p and OTM heifers averaged 164.7p.

A Limousin cow consigned by R S & B A Harker, Holme topped the OTM section at £1306.80, closely followed by a British Blue from J T Forrest & Son, Preston realising £1297.80. D Fox & Co, Lancaster Friesian type hit £1200.86. J M Robinson, Over Kellet’s Friesian heifer sold to £1207.54 with a Montbelliard consigned by J K & B J Birkett, Morecombe reaching £1079.95.

Calves and Weanlings

A larger entry of 90 calves & weanlings forward this week meeting with plenty of demand. Buyers looking to purchase strong calves and calves with good confirmation. Smaller types of calves and younger native heifer calves were buyable this week.

The consignment from AJ & AJ Gibbons, St Michaels were eagerly bid for with six week old British Blue bulls selling to £450 and £445 twice. The consignment from J & G Thornley, Roseacre always meet plenty of demand and were eagerly bid for selling British blue bulls to £450 and £440. All British Blue bulls forward averaged £351. Angus bull calves from the same home sold to £435. Strong weanling Angus heifer calves sold to £435 and £425 from WB Richardson & Son, Singleton. Hereford bull calves twice sold to £400 from TE & M Kidd, Quernmore. Plenty of beef calves easily selling in excess of the three hundred pound mark.
Black and White bull calves sold to £200, £195 and £170 from G & ME Woodhouse, Ellel with all black and white bull calves forward averaging £126.
