Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Calves, OTM Cattle and Store Cattle - Friday 06th August 2021

CALVES & STIRKS


The weekly sale of calves saw a predominantly younger show forward with buyers keen to secure all classes and types. Bull calves sold to a top of £340 for a Charolais x from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale, closely followed by JR Newsham & son, Conder Green selling a Simmental x to £335. Younger bull calves sold to £270 for a Limousin from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington. With others generally selling between £240-260.
Heifer calves sold to £328 for a British Blue from J Burrow & Son, Barton with other British Blues achieving £205 from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington and Aberdeen Angus’s to £270 from J Burrow & Son, Barton. A large entry of dairy bred bulls sold to £310 for a Montbeliarde from JR Newsham, Conder Green, whom also sold Fleckviehs to £290 and younger Montbeliardes sold at £270. Holstein Friesian sold to £142 from AD&RL Milner, Claughton on Brock with others at 135 from WN&D Smith & Sons, Cockerham.
A pen full of 5-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers from E&J Redmayne, Winmarleigh sold at £510 with Aberdeen Angus heifers from the same home achieving £415.


STORE CATTLE


Lancaster had on offer 245 head of quality store cattle which met a sharper trade.
A consignment of superb cattle from loyal Lancaster supporters JM&AG Swarbrick, Lancaster hit the high spot with a shapley Limousin bullock selling to £1600, also from the same home a British Blue realising £1500. Limousins from RH Dodgson, Carnforth sold to £1300. Native bred Aberdeen Angus peaked at £1490 twice firstly from J Hesketh, Hutton and secondly from SH & LE Birkett, Carnforth. Leading the Shorthorn trade was GR & A Foy, Conder Green selling to £1430. A pen of Herefords realised £1400 from J Lamb, Glasson. In the Black and White section, EE Thornton & Son, Heaton made £1260.
The heifer trade peaked at £1300 for a nice pair of British Blues from M Shepherd & Sons, Pilling. Native Angus heifers sold to £1270 and £1220 from JB Moore, Allithwaite. J & JM Walmsley, Pilling sold Simmentals to £1250. Limousins reached £1210 from AP Hodgkinson, Poulton Le Fylde. Black and White heifers sold to £1020 and £950 from EW & RM Towers, Hornby.
A pair of Limousin bulls consigned by FK &F Woodhouse, Scorton realised £1180.


OTM CATTLE


Lancaster had forward 112 cast cattle. There was a plainer show on offer with the sale meeting recent rates and averaging a respectable 146.6p/kg. Many more could have been sold to fulfil buyers requirements.
Topping the trade in the cast cow ring was a native Hereford realising £1509.95 consigned by GJT&V Parkinson, Poulton Le Fylde. J Maxwell, Lancaster peaked at 189.5p/kg also for a Hereford. Fleckviehs reached £1388.05 or 177.5p/kg from Barlow Bros, Preston. In the Black and White section, a Friesian from R&E Ladds, Kendal reached £1357.13. Top price per kilo for Friesians sold to 194.5 from A&MA Wright, Wray. JM & KE Ellis, Kendal consigned a British Blue cow topping at £1238.55 or 179.5p/kg. OTM heifers reached £1145.50 or 197.5p/kg from JK&BK Birkett & Son, Morecambe for a Swedish Red. Friesian heifers from WA Ward & Son, Slyne topped at £1141.78 or 209.5p/kg. Hitting the top spot for over thirty-month bullocks was CJ & MH Parry, Cockerham for a native Aberdeen Angus at £1605.17. P G Thornton, Scorton reached 184.5p/kg for his Angus bullocks.
